Camping Day Two

On our second day of camping we went to Grandfather Mountain, hiked near the campground, had afternoon s'mores and ate hobo pies.

Grandfather Mountain was awesome, but the 50 MPH winds threw a wrench in our plans. We wanted to hike but could not because of the wind. We did walk through the animal habitats, had some YUMMY fudge and went to the mile high bridge. Because of the winds Emmett and I hung out at the car while Mama and Eli went to the mile high swinging bridge... in 50 MPH winds. They enjoyed the experience but apparently Eli was holding on like a Spider Monkey on the walk across. I thoroughly enjoyed watching people getting blown around on the top while they went to the bridge. When Eli ad Mama came back, we got to chase my hat across the parking lot, it was insane just how fast it shot off of my head!!! We recovered it only because it got wedged under the tire of a parked car, I saw two other people lose their hats UP AND OVER the mountain!! Eli and Emmett also got a stuffed Bear, "Bear Cub" and Otter, "Ottie".

Black Bears in a habitat, though there are plenty roaming the mountains as well.

The River Otters were very active and playful!

This otter is doing a back dive in the water.

Cougars!

The cat was amazing, and quite large as well!
Too bad there are none left in NC!

Hanging out at some super cool boulders!

Everything about Grandfather Mountain is large and extreme!

While at the campsite Eli loved running back and forth from the car to the picnic table and pretending to be Buzz Lightyear. He took quite a few spills but never slowed down!! Emmett was a great camper, sleeping very well and staying asleep while we tried to put Eli down each night!

Emmett likes s'mores... who'd a thunk it?

Eli likes s'mores as well, but we knew that!! His shirt was fitting for the day time, but at night he wanted nothing to do with sleeping and it was quite the battle!!!

Posing with the site sign after a short walk at the campground.

The Gwinns.
