Monday night I was outside on the deck and had one of those fun, living in a park moments. I was surrounded by calling Owls. There was a Great Horned Owl and a juvenile Great Horned Owl, an Eastern Screech-owl, and a Barred Owl. It was very fun to listen to, especially because we heard all three species at the same time! If you click the links below it takes you to a great bird site. Look for the link that says "Play sound from this species" below the range map on the right.
ok, super fun post! interesting and then hilarous because of wyatt's reactions to the owls' "talking". he like the the Great Horned owl...at first. both of us jumped when it did the screech sound, then he said "no...no like that one"! ha! then we just listened to it again, but he didn't want to. but this time when he heard the screech, he says "oh, the baby"! now he's "quoting" the "baby" owl!
for the barred owl, i thought that claire was waking up from her nap, but then realized it was the owl i was listening to.
and last but not least, the eastern screech owl got an immediate "no, no like it", with a couple seconds later "horsey".
just thought you might enjoy that. we certainly enjoyed the owls...some more than others! :)
